PHENOM has worked closely with the Student Immigrant Movement (SIM) and the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Association (MIRA) on Education Opportunity. Right now, children of undocumented immigrants must pay out-of-state tuition rates at public colleges even if they have gone to Massachusetts public schools their whole lives. We seek to rectify this inequity either through legislation or an executive order.
Every year the Commonwealth punishes long-term, high achieving undocumented students and denies itself additional revenue, knowledge and skills. They are good kids, who have done nothing wrong themselves, have attended school in Massachusetts for years, have often lived here most of
their lives, and have proven their commitment to academic achievement and our state.
