SUMMARY:#MillionStudentMarch
DESCRIPTION:From the Organizers: \n\nWe are high school\, college\, and graduate students\, recent graduates\, campus workers\, former students\, parents\, and grandparents uniting in a day of action on November 12\, 2015 to demand tuition-free public college\, cancellation of all student debt\, and a $15 minimum wage for all campus workers.\nEducation should be free. The United States is the richest country in the world\, yet students have to take on crippling debt in order to get a college education. The average college graduate of the Class of 2015 has over $35\,000 in debt. More than 40 million Americans share a total of $1.2 trillion in student debt and 58 percent of that is held by the poorest 25 percent of Americans.\nThis is clearly an urgent crisis\, but establishment politicians from both parties are failing to take action. In 2013\, Congress passed legislation that doubled the interest rates for federal student loans. Students face rising tuition costs\, mounting debt\, and a lack of good-paying jobs when they graduate. Further\, while top administrators take home six and seven figure salaries\, many campus workers are paid poverty wages and are forced to rely on federal and local assistance.\n#MillionStudentMarch will be a day of local actions. From coast to coast\, students\, current and former\, are organizing rallies and marches on college campuses and high schools. We are people of all colors\, genders\, and sexual orientation\, and we are united to fight for education as a human right. Together\, we can build an independent movement capable of winning tuition-free public college\, a cancellation of all student debt\, and a $15/hr minimum wage for all campus workers!

SUMMARY:Fair Share Campaign Signature Gathering Training (UMass Amherst)
DESCRIPTION:A statewide campaign has begun to pass a progressive income tax in Massachusetts and raise over a billion dollars to support public education and other essential public services. PHENOM has a role to play in this important initiative.\n\nThis “fair share” tax proposal would amend the state Constitution to allow for a 4% higher tax rate on annual income over $1\,000\,000 – to generate about $1.3 billion in revenue dedicated to K-12\, public higher education and public transit\, roads and bridges.  \n\nPHENOM has long argued that the state needs additional revenue in order to fully fund our campuses and make college accessible and affordable to all.  We maintain that this revenue must come from those who can afford to pay more.  This is our opportunity!\n\nPlease join us and learn more.

SUMMARY:Fair Share Amendment Volunteer Signature Gatherer Training (Boston)
DESCRIPTION:The Raise Up Mass Coalition is hosting statewide volunteer trainings to give everyone what they need to organize around the Fair Share Amendment. These trainings will review why we’re launching the campaign\, the campaign’s message\, polling\, what we need to do to accomplish our goals and will have hands-on practice for all the skills and tactics needed for signature collection for our constitutional amendment. Register here. \nMore on the Fair Share Amendment from the Raise Up Mass Campaign: \n\nWhat Our Constitutional Amendment Would Do\nOur proposed constitutional amendment would create an additional tax of four percentage points on annual income above one million dollars. The new revenue generated by this tax could only be spent on quality public education\, affordable public colleges and universities\, and for repair and maintenance of roads\, bridges\, and public transportation.\nTo ensure that the tax continues to apply only to the highest income residents\, who have the ability to pay more\, the one million dollar threshold would be adjusted each year to reflect cost-of-living\nincreases.\nHow Will The Campaign Succeed?\nTo move forward\, the campaign must gather 64\,750 certified signatures in 2015 and get at least 50 votes in the state Legislature in two constitutional conventions before going to the ballot in 2018. To achieve these goals\, the campaign is building a broad coalition that brings together leading organizations on transportation and education with business leaders and community\, labor and faith organizations. Join us today to help working families and build a stronger economy for us all.\nIf Massachusetts is serious about helping working families and building a stronger economy\, we must invest in quality public schools\, affordable higher education\, and a transportation system that works.
