600+ students, faculty and staff from around the state came to the State House March 5 to advocate for a dramatic increase in funding for public higher education, AND progressive tax increases to pay for it. Governor Patrick addressed the group, saying “we cannot reform our way to an affordable higher education system” and that the state needs to invest: “If we are going to keep the public in public higher ed, then the public has to step up, too.”
PHENOM Board members Nicole Ouimette and Alexis Marvel were among the student speakers. Read Nicole’s statement. Read this excellent Springfield Republican story about the Advocacy Day. And a shorter one in the Boston Globe.
