100 Mile Cross-State March Events
Berkshire Community College
The 100 Mile Cross-State March kicks off at Berkshire Community College with a rally on the main Quad area on October 2nd at 11 am. Among the speakers at the rally will be State Senator Ben Downing, Candidate for State Representative from the Berkshire 2nd District Paul Mark, Liz Recko-Morrison, Coordinator of Assessment & Testing at BCC, and Max Page, Professor at UMass Amherst, Vice President of PHENOM and one of the PHENOMenal Walkers. Invited guests include Pittsfield Mayor James Ruberto and City Counselor Pete White (Alumni of BCC and MCLA). Walkers and a group of bicyclists from Westfield State University will leave BCC for Westfield State University at 12 noon.
Westfield State University
The 100 Mile Cross-State March kicks off at Berkshire Community College October 2nd at 11 am. Walkers will depart from BCC for Westfield State University (WSU) at noon. A group of Westfield State University bicyclists will also leave at noon from BCC to WSU. The Walkers and riders will be welcomed at an event in the Scanlon Living Room Saturday evening at 5 pm. Speakers at the event, sponsored by the Student Government Association, will include Representative Jim Welsh, WSU alum, and candidate for State Senate, Patrick Burke, student at WSU and Ken Haar, PHENOMenal Walker and WSU Associate Professor in Computer and Information Science, Education and Psychology. The Walkers will leave WSU at 8 am, October 3rd for UMass Amherst from the patio between New Hall (Dunkin Donuts) and the Interfaith Center.
UMass Amherst
After events at Berkshire Community College and Westfield State University, walkers arrive at UMass Amherst at 6 pm on October 3rd. There will be an informal dinner for the walkers that evening in Bartlett Hall on the UMass campus. On October 4th there will be a send-off rally at Haigis Mall at 8:15 am. Speakers include Senator Stan Rosenberg, Representative Ellen Story, Mickey Gallagher, a PHENOMenal Walker from the Massachusetts Teachers Association, Student Government Speaker Modesto Montero, and Randall Phillis, President of the Massachusetts Society of Professors.
Worcester State University
The 100 Mile Cross-State March kicks off at Berkshire Community College (BCC) with a rally on the main Quad area on October 2nd at 11 am. Walkers will arrive at Worcester State University (WSU) for a rally on Monday, October 4 at 6:30 pm in the Exhibition Area on the 1st Floor of the Student Center. Speakers at the rally will include Professor Anne Falke, a state legislator from the Worcester area and Melissa Urban, a PHENOMenal Walker and UMass Amherst student from the Worcester area. Walkers leave the next morning at 7 am for Framingham State University.
Framingham State University
The 100 Mile Cross-State March to Defend Public Higher Education kicks off at Berkshire Community College (BCC) with a rally on the main Quad area on October 2nd at 11 am. Walkers will arrive at Event at Framingham State University (FSU) at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, October 5 in time for a welcoming event at the Dwight Performing Arts Center. The speakers will include Jill Stein, Green-Rainbow Party candidate for Governor, Robert Donohue, President of the FSU Faculty Union; Maxwell Morrongiello, FSU Student Trustee; Kim Selwitz, member of FSU Student Senate and a PHENOM Board Member; and Manuel Pintado, student at UMass Amherst and a PHENOMenal Walker. Walkers will depart at 8 am on Wednesday for UMass Boston.
Boston
The 100 Mile Cross-State March to Defend Public Higher Education kicks off at Berkshire Community College (BCC) with a rally on the main Quad area on October 2nd at 11 am. Walkers will arrive at UMass Boston from Framingham State University on Wednesday, October 6. A welcoming celebration is planned for 7:30 p.m. on the 3rd Floor of the Campus Center. A grand send-off for the last leg of the Walk will take place on the Plaza at UMass Boston Thursday at 11 am. Speakers will include Stasha Lampert, UMass Boston Student Trustee and President of PHENOM, Alex Kulenovic, a UMass Boston alumni and former Student Trustee and Alex is also PHENOM’s Organizing Director and former President. At 12 noon the Walkers along with students, staff and faculty coming on buses from UMass Amherst, UMass Dartmouth, UMass Lowell, Springfield Technical Community College, and Westfield State University, as well as others from Boston area public colleges will march from UMass Boston for a rally in front of the State House at 1:30 p.m.
